kata benda yang dimasukan sesudah possessive adjective bisa berbentuk tunggal/singular, jamak/plural, benda yang bisa dihitung/countable nouns, atau benda yang tidak bisa dihitung/uncountable noun.
Possessive adjective adalah termasuk jenis kata sifat, karena possessive adjective menjelaskan kata benda sesudahnya. Sebenarnya  posessive adjective digunakan untuk mengganti possessive noun ketika referencenya diketahui dengan jelas. perhatikan contoh di bawah ini;

Toni's book   -        His book
Shinta's book - her book
The children's book - their book.

Kata "toni's book" adalah possessive noun, dan bisa diganti dengan possessive adjective "his book". ketika anda dan lawan bicara anda mengatakan "his book" berarti anda dan lawan bicara anda telah mengetahui bahwa buku itu milik Toni walau tidak menggunakan possessive noun (Toni's book).

untuk membuat possessive nouns, kita harus menambahkan " 's/' " setelah nama

Toni's book
Robi's pen 
My mother's house
The children's teacher
My parent's stove

Apabila membuat possessive noun dengan menggunakan nama orang yang berakhiran "s", maka bisa menambah " 's ". contoh:

Charles's house
Denis's pen
Jika benda tersebut berbentuk jamak dengan menambahkan "s", untuk membuat possessive nounnya yaitu dengan " ' " saja, bukan  " 's"
contoh:

My sisters' book
The parents' house
The cats' food
The students' teacher

Jika benda tersebut berbentuk jamak yang tidak beraturan/ irrigular plural nouns, maka kita harus menambahkan " 's "

contoh:
the children's teacher
the men's pen
the women's parents
people's food
the mice's cage

Contoh lainya:

Dina's pencil    =  her pencil
John's wife     =  his wife
The students' teacher = their teacher
Chris's pen    = his pen
The mice's cage  = their cage
The cat's food    = its food
Toni's and Robi's book = their book

Contoh dalam kalimat

Toni and Joe are in the bedroom. Their mother is cooking in the kitchen.
I do not bring my book.
Do you love your mother?
Anton hates his cat.
Toni and Tono sleep in their cousin's house.
Toni's bag is new.
